The SMU Japanese Appreciation Club (SJAC) acts as a facilitator to foster greater awareness and understanding of the Japanese culture through the organization of various enriching activities for the student
population.

By providing these opportunities, students are able to discover the nuances and beauty behind the Japanese culture for themselves, and also to better appreciate the intricacies involved in the age-old traditions, which are still very much a part of the vibrant and cosmopolitan Japan today.

One of the highlights of SJAC’s activities were the Japanese Dish Making classes that were conducted by our very own Professor Ting’s wife. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Prof Ting and his wife again, for their kind help in assisting our students to indulge in delightful Japanese cuisine.

We also started Elementary Japanese Language classes as a step forward to getting our students to learn about Japan from its unique language and also to provide basic conversational skills.

The Annual Natsu Matsuri Summer Fair is an event highly anticipated by the Japanese community in Singapore, organized by the Japanese Association of Singapore. The 2001 event that a group of us attended was eye opening with its traditional cultural themes and best of all, we had the great chance to don pretty Kimonos while scouring the food stalls for Japanese delicacies.

To be announced on a later date.
